In 1901, William H. Read, 9 years of age, was shown residing at 89 Greame Street, Hulme, Moss Side, Lancashire, England. Other family members included: Albert V. A death registration was found for John Hodnett Read; Estimated Birth Year: abt 1870; Year of Registration: 1904; Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar; Age at Death: 34; District: Chorlton; County: Lancashire; Volume: 8c; Page: 540.

In 1907, William H. Read, 15, arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, along with a group of 48 boys en route to Belleville, Ontario, Canada, under "Rev. Wallace's Party."

On March 17, 1910, in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between William Henry Read, 21, farmhand, son of John H. and Jane Read; and another home child, Daisy Lillian Pope, 19, "don't know her parents names - Came out to this country through Barnardo Homes".

In 1911, William Read, 20, farm manager, is shown residing with his wife, Daisy Read, 20, at Zorra West Township, Harrington Village, Oxford North, Ontario, Canada. His date of birth is shown as May 1891 and her immigration year as 1907.

On May 14, 1915, William Henry Read enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces (Service Number: 602470; Force: Army; Unit: Canadian Infantry (Eastern Ontario Regiment); Division: 2nd Bn.). He declared that he was born in Bath, Somersetshire, England; that his next of kin was his wife, Mrs. Daisy Read, who resided at 96 Wellington Street, Stratford, Ontario, Canada; that he was a teamster; and that he had previously served for 8 months in the 28th Regiment of Stratford. He was described as 5 foot 6 inches in height; medium complexion; grey eyes; and dark hair. He had distringuishing marks of a large brown birthmark on his abdomen, 3" in diameter and a depression on his chin.

Private William Henry Read died on April 25, 1917 in France. He is buried at BOIS-CARRE BRITISH CEMETERY, Pas de Calais, France (Grave Reference: I. D. 10).
