1911 Canadian Census records place Robert Redfern in the household of Thomas Anderson with no listed relation in Fredericksburg, Lennox, Ontario. Robert was born in May of 1898, is 13 years of age and immigrated from England in 1907. He has no listed occupation.

Attestation papers were signed 1 May 1916 in Cobourg, Ontario. Robert Andrew Redfern was born 18 May 1898 in London, England. He works as a farmer in Cobourg, Ontario. His Next of Kin is his friend, George Anderson of Bath, Ontario, Canada. 5'4" in height with brown eyes and grey hair. His religion was listed as Methodist.

Commonwealth War Graves Registers and Circumstances of Casualty confirm that he had previously been reported missing and then presumed to have died in the trenches north of Passchendaele. His Next of Kin was listed as Miss Mary Redfern of Beeton, Ontario where forms were sent in Dec 1924. His body was not recovered for burial. His name is listed on the Menin Gate Memorial in Ypres, West Flanders, Belgium.
