1891 Welsh Census records show Aneurin John Rees as a 6 year old boy born about 1885 in Aberavon, Glamorgan, Wales. He is in the household of Mary Rees (40, Listed as widowed) and John Fisher (60, Also listed as widowed). Also in residence were Thomas Fisher (20), Mary Alice Rees (9), and Mary Margaret Rees (2).

Descendants confirm that Mary Rees married John Fisher in 1892 before her death in 1894.

1901 Welsh Census records place Aneurin J Rees as an inmate of an institution called Neath Union Cottage Homes in Bryncoch, Glamorgan, Wales. He is 15 years of age born about 1886, born in Aberavon, Glamorgan, Wales. Mary M Fisher, (sister to the above) was also an inmate within the same institution.

Commonwealth War Graves Registers states that John was Killed in Action. His Next of Kin was Master D J Thomas of Mevdore Terrace, Cumavon Road, Aberavon, Glam. however that information is scratched out and two addresses were added. Aneurin Rees of Lletty Need, Penydie, Neath, South Wales and Mrs. Annie Bryant, Box 18, Solsgirth, Manitoba. John was buried in Hillside Cemetery, Le Quesnel, Somme, Picardie, France. Plot: I.
