NotesIn 1901, Thomas Russell, 5 years of age, was shown residing at 28 Upper View Craig Row, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland. Other family members included: Alexander Russell, 9; Elizabeth Russell, 48, tailor's wife; Elizabeth Russell, 12; Helen [Ellen] Russell, 3; John Russell, 24, brass finisher; Mark Russell, 17, apprentice blacksmith; Robert Russell, 50, tailor; Robert Russell, 22, blacksmith; David Russell, 7; and William Russell, 19, tailor. In 1907, Thomas Russell, 12 (along with his brother, David Russell, 12), arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, with a group of 102 children en route to Brockville, Ontario, Canada.

In 1911, Thomas Russell, 16, is shown as a domestic / labourer for Peter Kenneth McLellan and family in Charlottenburg, Glengarry, Ontario, Canada. His date of birth is shown as December 1894 and his immigration year as 1907. His brother, David Russell, 18, is also residing and working for this family.

On October 7, 1915, Thomas Deigo Russell (Corporal) re-enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he was born in Edinborough [sic] Scotland; that his next of kin was his brother, Alexander Russell, who resided at 75 Lewis Street, Brockville, Ontario, Canada; that he was born December 7, 1895; that he was an asylum guard; that he was not married; and that he had previously served for 3 years in the 41st Regiment as a corporal. He was described as 5 foot 7-1/2 inches in height; fair complexion; hazel eyes; medium brown hair. He was a member of the Presbyterian faith. He had distinguishing marks of small tattoo spots on each forearm; brown birthmark on right hip; and marks of acne.

On September 10, 1919, in Ottawa, Carleton, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Thomas Doidge Russell, 23, laborer, born in Edinburgh, Scotland, son of Robert Russell and Elizabeth Pringle; and Mary Moore, 21, born in Ireland, daughter of Samuel Moore and Mary Cooke. Alexander Russell, who resided 33 Wellington Street, Brockville, Ontario, Canada, was a witness to the marriage.
