Notes In 1872, Sarah Saxby, 11, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 112 Maria Rye children en route to Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada.
"Charges made against Miss M. Rye before the Poor Law Board at Islington and her reply thereto. [S.l. : s.n., 1874?]
[Sarah Saxby] ran away from her home and complained to me of her treatment; the people with whom I had placed the child complained of her also to me; and thirdly, the neighbors complained of the master and mistress. I consequently placed the matter in the hands of the local magistrate of Lobo, who first investigated and then dismissed the case. I was not satisfied with the decision, and myself removed the child, who is now living with Mr. Edwards, Postmaster of Lobo."
