Attestation papers were signed 3 Nov 1915 in Windsor, Ontario. William Evyln (Mispelled, should read 'Evlyn') Skinner was born 22 Feb 1897 in Stratford, England. Next of Kin was his mother, Mrs Willis Skinner of 40 Humbolt Ave., Detroit, Michigan, USA. Occupation was listed as farmer. 5'4" in height with grey eyes and light brown hair, he had worts on his right hand. His religion was listed as Methodist.
Commonwealth War Graves Registers states he was Killed in Action. He was buried in Villers-Bretonneux Military Cemetery, Villers-Bretonneux, Somme, Picardie, France. Plot: VI. D. 1.
According to the Canadian Virtual War Memorial and an article from CBC news, William Evlyn Skinner was the son of James and Eleanor Skinner. William and his brother, James came to Canada as British Home Children and after his arrival in Canada, he paid for both his mother, then his sister Florence's passage to Canada. William was awarded the War Victory Medal and the British War Medal. The Victory Medal itself was found in the 1970s in a chicken run in the Chatham area by Andy VanDerMolen and was returned to Florence's daughter, Dorothy McNaughton (Aged 91).
