In 1909, Frederick Smerk, 12, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 72 Barnardo children en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Some family histories record that Frederick changed his name to George Miller to avoid military service.

About 1925 Frederick George Smirke married Edna Marie Stewart.

Frederick George Smirke died in 1973, and Edna Marie Stewart died in 1988, both in Shawville, Quebec, Canada.
