Barbara arrived aged 9 and was placed at Fairbridge Farm School, Pinjarra, Western Australia. She was one of 160 children who came to Australia aboard ‘Ballarat’ in 1928. 115 went to Fairbridge WA, the remainder on to Sydney.

Birth reg and passenger list as SPARKS; Fairbridge Kids and marriage as SPARKES.

Barbara and Eric divorced in 1946. He remarried in 1946 and divorced again in 1950, then remarrying in 1952; he died in 1979.

Her second husband Arthur died in 2008 aged 85.
