In July 1896 Ellen's mother Mary remarried for the third time to William Eaves. Together they would have one child, Thomas Eaves born in 1897. In 1901 the family, including John and Amy Hambridge, William, Arthur and Earnest are living with her new husband William and son Thomas. The only exception would be Ellen who was then living with the Barnardo Homes.
In 1901, Ellen Stokes, 13, arrived at Quebec, Canada, along with a group of 105 of Dr. Barnardo's children to Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. On October 31, 1903, at Barnardo House, Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, Ellen Louise Stokes, 17, died of phthisis pulmonaris, 1 year duration. Ellen is buried at Little Lake Cemetery, Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, along with 46 other Barnardo children who were a part of Hazlebrae House.
