In 1901, Robert W. Styche, 5 years of age, was residing at 48 Barker Street, Lady Wood, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England. Other family members included: Elizabeth Styche, 43, widow, living on own means; George Styche, 14; Harry Styche, 4 months; John A. Styche, 8; Louisa Styche, 10; and James B. Styche, 6. In 1903, Robert Styche, 7, arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, along with a group of 9 children, accompanied by Dr. J. T. Middlemore, en route to the Middlemore Home in Halifax. (Siblings, James Styche, 8, Louisa Styche, 11, and John Styche, 9, arrived in 1902 on the Siberian, and brother Harry Styche arrived in 1911 on the Carthaginian, all with Middlemore.)

On September 6, 1915, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, a marriage was registered between Robert William Henry Stych, 23, labourer, born in Birmingham, England, son of William Henry and Elizabeth Stych; and Kathleen Mary E. Hallson, 16, born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, daughter of Janus and Cecilia K. Hallson. Robert stated his father's profession was that of a steel worker.
