In 1901, John Swainland, 11, boarder, with Henry and Elizabeth Eagle in Penetanguishene, Simcoe, Ontario. John states he was born 23 Oct 1889 in England, and immigrated in 1900.
1916 Western Canadian Census records place John Swainland at 34 Bow River, Alberta with the address of 25,15,W4, Bulyer. He was English, single, born about 1893 and immigrated in 1900.
On 7th December 1915 in Calgary, Alberta, John Swainland attested that he was born October 24th 1891 (Born in 1889) in Cambridge, England. He gave his next of kin as Brother - Harry Swainland, of 10 Norfolk St, Cambridge (His brother, Harry Harding Swainbridge). He stated he was Farmer. 5'3" in height with grey eyes and light brown hair. His religion was listed as Church of England.
LAC has a second attestation paper linked to John's page, however the information is completely conflicting and unlikely, as it was signed 27 Dec 1916.
Commonwealth War Graves Registers states John was Killed in Action. His name was listed on the Vimy Memorial, in Vimy, Nord Pas de Calais, France.
