Attestation papers were signed 1 May 1916 in Lindsay, Ontario. Alfred Tait was born 28 Oct 1898 in England. He was a Farmer by trade, residing at R.R. #1 Sonya, Ontario. His Next of Kin was his Foster Parent, Mrs. George Smith of Sonya, Ontario. 5'5" in height with hazel eyes and dark brown hair, he had a scar on the inside of his left thigh. His religion was listed as Methodist.

Commonwealth War Graves Registers state he was Killed in Action. He was buried about 1/2 a mile North West of Farbus, 4 1/2 miles North of Arras. His grave is unmarked, his name is listed on the Vimy Memorial, Vimy, Nord Pas de Calais, France.
