In 1905, William Thwaite, 13, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 163 Barnardo children.
Sent to Dundas County, Ontario, Canada.
On March 7, 1916, at Iroquois, Ontario, Canada, Wiliam Thwaite, 24, became an officer in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he was born in Newcastle-on-Tyne, England; that he resided in Oroquois [sic], Ontario, Canada; that his date of birth was March 15, 1892; that his next of kin was his sister, Mrs. W. J. Taylor, who resided at 2531 Clarke Street, Montreal, Quebec, Canada; that he was a clerk in a dry goods store; and that he was a member of the Church of England.
Lt. Willaim Thwaite died on August 10, 1918, at the Battle of the Somme. He is buried at Fouquescourt British Cemetery, Somme, France. Plot: III. E. 1.
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission states he is the son of Margaret Jane Hedefine and Alfred Thwaite of Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumberland, United Kingdom.
