Sidney Tilbury, along with his siblings: George, Herbert and Maud, was admitted to Lambeth Union Schools on July 4, 1895. Their mother was dead, and their father, Amos, had deserted whereby a warrant was granted on October 17, 1895. Their great-aunt, Mrs Lucinda Clayton, resided at 1 Burnett St, Vauxhall. Ernest Tilbury, was c/o their uncle, C. Tilbury, 42 Teesdale St, Hackney on March 13, 1897. Lily was sent into service May 2, 1898, at Mrs Elkes 155 Knights Hill Road.
Maud was sent into service at Mrs. Beck's, 62 Leighan-Vale, Streatham, on September 14, 1899; George died at Norwood School on April 22, 1900; and Herbert was discharged to Barnardo's Homes on August 1, 1900.
Sidney was discharged to Barnardo's Homes June 12, 1901.
In 1901, Sidney Tilbury, 10, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a large group of Barnardo children, 239 to Toronto, Ontario; 68 to Winnipeg, Manitoba; 20 to Russell, Manitoba; and 3 to Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.
