NotesAdmitted to Bernardos December 11, 1918 along with 2 brothers. Sidney was 5 years old and George Albert Turner was 9, Leonard Turner was 4. Older brother Thomas Henry Houghton went to live with maternal grandmother. Their mother Florence Gertrude Houghton/Turner had died in December 1917 at Tranmere Workhouse Hospital from consumption(tuberculosis). Their father, Augustus de Hillgreave Turner was 34 years old and suffered from partial epilepsy. At this time they were living in Birkenhead.

The boys were admitted to the Receiving House at Stepney Causeway in the east end of London. Sidney was transferred two days later to the Boys of Garden City at Woodford Bridge, Essex. His brothers remained at Stepney until they were moved to separate accommodation elsewhere.

On May 5, 1919, Sidney was boarded out at Diss in Norfolk for 3 years. He returned to Stepney for 1 week and was boarded out at Bugbrooke in Northhamptonshire for 2 years then tranferred to Clapham Home at Clapham in South London June 27, 1924.

Four years later on July 9, 1928 Sidney was moved to Liverpool and one week later on July 13. 1928 he set sail for Canada aboard the SS Duchess of Atholl. Arriving in Quebec July 22, 1928.

His younger brother Leonard obtained employment and remained in Wales. George Albert was emigrated to Canada 5 years earlier, September 13, 1923.

Sidney was placed with Mr. Russet Day at Creemore, Ontario. Reported as being a fine boy. He discovered that his older brother George was living just a mile away after he had thought he had been sent to Australia. In September of 1928 there was friction with his employer and he was transferred to Mr. Sidney Andrews of Bismark, Ontario. He did share a room with his brother for a short time, but just a few months later his brother George had moved on and was never seen again.

In March of 1930 Sidney was now working for Mr. H. Crow in Fenwick, Ontario. In July 1930 he then moved on to work for Mr. N Myers of Niagara on the Lake, Ontario. In August 1930 Sidney left without reason or cause and no further reports were sent to Bernardos.

Sidney married Dorothy Jennings and they had 8 children. Sidney built his home in St. Catharines, Ontario. Dorothy passed away in 1979 and Sidney in 1989. I am Sidney's daughter-in-law married to his 7th child. Currently 51 years old. I've made contact with a distant cousin, he lives in the UK and his great grandmother would have been my husband's aunt. I've also made contact with Leonard's grand-daughters living in Wales. To date i have no proof of the death of Sidney's father Augustus or to the where abouts of Thomas Henry Houghton or George Albert Turner.
