1891 Engish Census records note Emma Jane Annie Unthank was born about 1890 to Elizabeth E A Close and Thomas Unthank of Middlesborough, Yorkshire, England. Thomas was a House Painter by trade. The couple had an older daughter, Winifred Margaret who was born in 1888 and later lives with her Grandparents in the 1901 Census.

1901 English Census lists widowed Nellie Unthank in Middlesborough, Yorkshire, England. Her children were Emmie (11), Richard (9), William A (5) and Nellie (5 months) in residence.

16 Jan 1908 Marriage record Emma Jeane Annette Unthank and Arthur Edward 'Arty' Verral in York County, Ontario. Emma lists her parents as Helen Close and Thomas Unthank.

In William Arthur Unthank's 1915 Attestation papers, he lists Emma Verral, his sister, as his Next of Kin. Her address was 85 Euclid Avenue, Toronto, Ontario.
