Notes When he was aged 10 he was sent by Dr Barnados to Canada to do farm work. He was listed aboard the Scotian leaving Liverpool on 14 June 1920. His last address was given with a foster mother Miss E Reeves at 11 Friends Rd, Diss in Norfolk. This could mean he may have been evacuated during WW1 and although his brother was on the same ship and bound for the same childrens home, they may have been split up before they sailed.
There is a Reeve family taking in Barnado Home Children on the 1911 census in Frenze Hall Lane, Diss and they have a daughter Edith Reeve with them. They are Edward and Agnes Reeve, married 30 years, 6 children all still living.
Prior to 1926 George was working for William J Lunny at Campbellcroft, Durham County, Ontario, after the death of his brother William he went to his Uncle Wm Herbert Hopkins in 187 Fulton Ave and went to Milton Agricultural College in 1926. He was with E Lewis in Milton in 1927 taking an agricultural course and in 1928 was in Guelph, Ontario before going west !!!!!
Barnardos letter states that the boys were taken into Barnardos together and shipped to Canada together, the last known address they have for George was in Toronto in 1931.
