NotesFrances was an inmate of a Hospital home at the age of 3 and was taken in to Barnardo's care on 8th November, 1905. Her Mother was in the Firvale workhouse as her Husband had left her, so she fell on hard times as a single Mother.

Frances was sent to Canada on 14th March, 1912 aboard the SS.Corinthian and arrived at St.John on 30th March, 1912. She went for a short while to Hazelbrae Home, Peterborough. Frances' Father was George Henry Walsh and her Mother Elizabeth Ann Walsh. She had a Brother, George Henry.

I did trace her to the town of Biggar, Saskatchewan, Canada, where she married a Mr Harry Smith in 1924 and had 8 children.

FRANCES WAS THE ONLY SISTER OF MY LATE GRANDFATHER,GEORGE HENRY WALSH. IT IS THOUGHT THEY WERE TWINS BUT AS YET, NOT VERIFIED. FRANCES WAS TAKEN INTO A CHILDRENS HOME AT THE AGE OF 3 AND HER MOTHER ANNIE TO FIRVALE WORKHOUSE AND FROM THERE SHE WAS TAKEN BY BARNARDO'S IN ALL THEIR "WISDOM" AT THE AGE OF 5. SHE WAS SENT TO CANADA AT THE AGE OF 14, ABOARD THE SS CORINTHIAN IN 1912, ARRIVING AT ST.JOHN. SHE WENT FOR A WHILE TO HAZELBRAE HOME BEFORE BEING SENT ON SOMEWHERE ELSE. I HAVE SINCE LEARNED THAT SHE MARRIED IN 1920 AND HAD 9 SONS, OF WHICH 4 WERE BORN PREMATURELY AND DIED. THE YOUNGEST SON IS STILL ALIVE AND I AM WAITING TO HEAR FROM HIM. STRANGELY, FRANCES DIED THE SAME YEAR AS MY GRANDAD, HER BROTHER IN 1987. THE STRANGE THING IS THAT I MISS HER DEARLY EVEN THOUGH WE NEVER MET,IN FACT, I'VE NEVER EVEN SEEN HER FACE.
