Notes A birth certificate was obtained for William John Warbrick: Born 14 June 1863, Father - John Warbrick, Mother - Phoebe Warbrick Formerly Eccleston, Father's Occupation - General Labourer, Residence - Milk House Yard, High Street, West Derby. Registration District - West Derby & Toxteth Park, Sub-district of West Derby in the County of Lancaster.
William was admitted to the Liverpool Sheltering Home at age 11 on June 14, 1873. His sister Susannah was born on March 21, 1866 and was admitted to the Liverpool Sheltering Home at age 8 on March 14, 1874. Their father was deceased and the mother had re-married. Her name was subsequently Mrs. Blair. The stepfather evidently ill-treated both the mother and her children. The mother's last address was not known following a move to Manchester.
Both William & Susannah sailed for Halifax, Nova Scotia on April 7, 1874. The information did not specify the ship name although there is an entry "2nd Bard April 7th 74" (not sure what this entry means). There are two other entries:
"C.D. Hunter Esq, Coward? St, Halifax" (this was crossed off)
"Samuel McDonald, West River, Pictou? Co"
Descendant family has a bible that was given to William at an orphanage with following inscription:
Wm Jno Warbrick
From Miss Birt

In 1874, William Warbrick, 11, arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, along with a group of 67 children accompanied by Louisa Birt.
William John WARBRICK was known in the USA as John W. per death & marriage cerificates.
