NotesMy great Aunt Alice was admitted to "Liverpool Sheltering Homes" at age 6 with her sister Margaret age 11. The girls and their mother pretty much spent their entire lives in and out of the workhouse. On the admittance papers they state the girls as being illegitimate though Mrs. Catherine Ward was still legally married to her husband that left many years ago.She found herself pregnant with her 5th child and I believe she wanted a better live for Alice and Margaret. The girls were sent to Canada at Knowlton Quebec with Mrs.Brit. Alice was sent to live with the Warren family who treated her like a daughter she was very lucky the farm was in Bethany Quebec. The Warren family moved to Manchester N.H. in 1907 and took Alice with them. She kept in touch with her sister Margaret in Canada they wrote letters and Alice sent gifts. Mr Warren sent a rail ticket for Margaret to come and visit Alice in Manchester. Margaret came to visit her sister and she never returned to Canada. She stayed with the Warren family for two years and then got a job with another family in Manchester N.H. alice became a pianist and married a Clifton Soule a fireman at age 20. So sad she died at age 22 of encephalitis. Alice was very lucky to have been placed with a good family who loved and took care of her.
