In 1901, Francis Wells, 3 years of age, was shown residing at Brook Street, Plympton, Devon, England, the home of his grandparents, James Wells, 66, retired ironmonger, and Martha Wells, 62. Other family members included: Emily Wells, 32; and Gertrude Wells, 22. (Source: 1901 Census of England; Class: RG13; Piece: 2087; Folio: 97; Page: 17.)

In 1910, Francis Edward Wells, 11, arrived at Quebec, Canada, along with a group of 111 Barnardo children en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

In 1911, Francis Wells, 13, was shown as adopted by Robert and Bertha Greeg of Arran Township, Bruce North, Ontario, Canada. His date of birth is shown as February 1898 and his immigration year as 1910.

On December 14, 1915, at Paisley, Ontario, Canada, Francis Edward Wells, 17 years/10 months, enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he resided in Paisley, Ontario, Canada; that he was born in Plympton, Devon, England; that his next of kin was his aunt, Mrs. Jacobs, who resided at 2 Radnor Place, Plymouth, England; that his date of birth was February 6, 1898; that he was as farmer; and that he was not married. He was described as 5 foot 4-1/2 inches in height; dark complexion; brown eyes; dark hair. He was a member of the Presbyterian faith.

He served in World War I, and, while in England during World War II, married Olive M. Bristow in February, 1945. They came to Canada in September, 1948: first to Ontario and then in 1950 to Argyle, Manitoba.

Mr. Wells passed away in 1961 and his wife in 1990.

They were remembered as very kind people, who, although it is not believed they had any children of their own, loved and welcomed the children of the community to their home.
