Barnardos reported that it appeared Arthur found it very difficult to settle down and had several changes. The first address on file for him in Canada was with Mr. John Stewart, a farmer, at Milton, where he remained until April 1885 when he went to Mr. R.D. Boyle, a saddler at Cobden. He was also with Mrs. Moxam at Forester's Falls P.O. and Mr. D. Brown also at Forester's Falls. In 1900, Arthur was reported in Calgary; and that he was employed as a carpenter and a first-class mechanic.

His granddaughter, Margaret, related "the only story my father told me was that his father [Arthur Woodward] had said that in one home he was accused of stealing sugar from the sugar bowl. He did not do it, so ran away."

Arthur John Woodward married Mary Jane Fleming.

On September 29, 1915, Arthur John Woodward, 41, enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he was born in London, England; that his next of kin was his wife Mary Woodward, who resided at 521 Hamilton Street, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; that he was born April 30, 1874; that he was a bridge carpenter; and that he had previously served in the Sthrathcona Horse 2 years and the R.N.W. Mounted Police 5 years. He was described as 5 foot 9-1/2 inches in height; dark complexion; blue eyes; dark hair. He was a member of the Church of England. He had 5 vaccination marks on his left arm.

Arthur John Woodward died on October 24, 1925, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada (Registration #: 1925-09-352434.)
