NotesA birth registration was found for George Edward Bell: Year of Registration: 1898; Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun; District: Nottingham; County: Nottinghamshire; Volume: 7b; Page: 293. Parents: William Edward Bell and Vashti White, married 1884 in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England.

George's father, William Edward Bell, met with a very tragic accident which necessitated the amputation of both his legs. Unable to cope with the raising of five children, George's mother committed suicide in 1907. George was the one to find her after she had poisoned herself. His siblings were unable to care for a nine year old boy, and with no close family to care for him, he was sent to Canada. The other siblings were scattered.

In 1913, George Bell, 15, arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, along with a group of 81 boys en route to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, accompanied by Dr. Stephenson. He remembered he brought a small, trunk-like box that had been misplaced on the farm to which he was originally sent.

George suffered from chillblains during his ocean voyage because of the short pants he had to wear. He was sent into farm labor in Milton, Ontario, to a Farmer named Wilson who treated him roughly. The Wilson women were mothering to him, though.

On February 23, 1916, George Bell, 18, enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he resided in Milton, Ontario; that he was born in Nottinghamshire, England; that his next of kin was his sister, Miss Harriet Bell, who resided at 7 Valentine Place, Nottingham, England; that he was born March 1, 1898; that he was a farmer; and that he was not married. He was described as 5 foot 7-1/2 inches in height; clear complexion; blue eyes; brown hair. He was a member of the Church of England.

During his service in the Canadian Expeditionary Force, George returned to England before being sent to France.

He had a wonderful singing voice and made many guest appearances in the Galt and Guelph Area after he returned from France in 1919.

George Edward Bell married Agnes Joy Selkirk. They had one child, Joy Ruby Bell.

On September 25, 1945, George Edward Bell entered the United States through the Port of Detroit, Michigan. He declared that he was born in Nottingham, England; that he was married; that he was a textile adviser; that he resided at 1628 Wyandotte West, Windsor, Ontario, Canada; that his next of kin was his wife, Joy Agnes Bell; that his destination was the Central Ohio Paper Co., 1630 Lafayette, Detroit, Michigan; that the purpose of his visit was to commute to work; and that he had originally immigrated to Canada in January 1913 on the ship Canada.

George Edward Bell died in 1973.
