In 1881, Jane Bell, 3 years of age, was shown residing at Victoria Street No 7, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland. Other family members included: Johnna Bell, 23; Robert Bell, 6 Months; Susan Bell, 2; and William Bell, 40, Army Pensioner C Sergt Militia Staff. William Bell, Quarter Master Sergeant, died on November 10, 1890, at 6:30 a.m., at the Military Barracks, Paisley, Scotland, of ulceration of the bowel and peritonitis (2 days duration.)

Johanna Newton died December 14, 1890, at 11:15 a.m., at 22 Blackhall(?), Dundee, Scotland, of pneumonia (2 days duration).

In 1891, Jane Bell, 13 years of age, was shown as an orphan residing at Orphan Homes of Scotland, Bridge of Weir, Kilmalcolm, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland, along with her sister, Beatrice Bell, 18 months; and a possible sister, Jessie Bell, 8.
