In 1911 Canadian Census records for William Grainger, 32, wife Alice J, 26, and children Grace, 6, Florence, 4, Blanche, 3, Iva M, 1, and mother Margaret Grainger, 53, widow, and Stanley Sarson, 15, hired boy, in Portage La Prairie, Gosfield, Essex, Ontario. Stanley was born in Feb of 1896 and immigrated from England in 1905.

Attestation papers were signed on 17 Jan 1916 in Kingston, Ontario. Stanley Sarson's birth date was stated as 10 Nov 1895 in Hastings, England. He gave his Next of Kin as his Aunt, Mrs Rose Sarson of Hastings, England. He was a farmer from Kingston Ontario at the time. 5'8" in height with blue eyes and light coloured hair. His religion was listed as Church of England.

On 18 Nov 1916, Stanley Sarson was reported as Killed in Action while fighting for the Canadian Army, he is remembered on the Vimy Memorial.
Commonwealth War Graves Registers confirms he was killed in the area of Somme, Picardie, France. A Vimy Memorial form was sent to Miss Gertrude Sarson, his Aunt, of 13 Alfrey Road, Eastbourne, Sussex, England on 17 Sep 1936.
