Oral history from her daughter Annie stated that Alice Backshall died about 1911 after falling out of a window trying to catch her daughter.

In 1912, Charles Albert Edward Backshall, 9, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 167 Barnardo boys en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

On October 1, 1927, at Niagara Falls, Welland, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Charles Albert Edward Backshall, 24, switchman, born in England to William Backshall and Alice Mockford; and Lillian Alberta Doughton, 18, born in england to Thomas Doughton and Edith Cook.

On August 3, 1940, Charles A. E. Backshall, 37, crossed into the United States through the port of Buffalo, New York. He declared that his date of birth was May 15, 1903; that he was born in Brighton, England; that he was married; that his nearest relation was his wife, Lillian Backshall, who resided at 79 Crook Street, Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada; that his destination was to the railroad yards at Buffalo, New York. He was described as 5 foot 8 inches in height; medium complexion; brown hair; brown eyes. He immigration to Canada via Halifax on September 12, 1912 on an unknown ship.

Charles Backshall and his wife were residing at 79 Crooks Street, Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, between 1940-1963.
