NotesHis father is unknown. George Goodman married Annie Atkinson in 1888 in Kendal, Westmorland, England. Annie Atkinson was pregnant at the time of her marriage to George Goodman with her son, Robert.

In 1903, Robert Atkinson, 10, arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, in a group of 316 Barnardo children en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

On June 10, 1916, at North Portal, Saskatchewan, Robert Atkinson, 24, enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he resided in North Portal, Saskatchewan, Canada; that he was born in Kendal, Westmorland, England; that his next of kin was his stepfather, George Goodman, who resided at Kendall, Westmorland, England; that his date of birth was January 1, 1892; that he was a farm-hand; and that he was not married. He was described as 5 foot 2 inches in height; fair complexion; blue eyes; brown hair.

Private Robert Atkinson, 25, died on June 29, 1917, of wounds received in battle in France. He is buried at Noeux-Les-Mines Communal Cemetery, France, in Plot: II. C. 26.
