Emily and her two sisters were sent to orphanages in Canada; Zorah Annie (b. 1883) arrived in 1892; Emily (b. 1887) arrived in 1893; Edith (b. 1890) arrived in 1895. She also had two brothers who remained in England; Albert (b. 1880) and Francis/Frank (b. 1882).

Emily was taken in by Cheshire and Jane O'Kell of Sydenham, Ont. Originally intending to adopt a boy, Emily was raised to help on the farm.

On October 5, 1910, at Laughlan, Frontenac, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Emily Chaplin, 23, maid, born to Thomas Chaplin and Sarah Stevenson; and James Embury (Emburey), 27, labourer, born to James Embury and Phoebe Kettle.

They remained in Sydenham until 1922 when they entered the United States and settled at Norwood, New York, USA.

Emily and James had four children: Cecil O'Kell James Emburey, born October 25, 1911, at Kingston, Ontario, Canada, died January 1941 in Cementon, Pennsylvania, USA; Evelyn Jane Emburey, born October 14, 1912, at Kingston, Ontario, Canada, died October 9, 2002, at Norwood, New York, USA; Frederick Albert Emburey (known as Clay), born August 29, 1920, in Norwood, New York, USA; and died November 13 1994, Colton, New York, USA; and Neil W. Emburey, born October 14, 1926, Norwood, New York, USA, died November 22, 2008, Norwood, New York, USA.

Emily was found by her sister, Zorah, in 1904 when she received a letter from her. Eventually Edith was also found and contact was also made with their brothers. They remained in contact the rest of their lives. Some contact was made with their father and he sent Emily a copy of her birth certificate. Little to nothing is known about him or her mother.
