Attestation papers were signed 8 Sep 1915 in Toronto, Ontario. Archibald Thomas Paige was born 21 Apr 1892 in Gateshead, Durham, England. He was a Student. His Next of Kin was his Mother, Martha Paige c/o F.J. Wilkinson at 72 1/2 Eaton. 5'7" in height with brown hair and brown eyes, he had a 1" scar on the right side of his neck. His religion was listed as Presbyterian.
Commonwealth War Graves Registers and Circumstances of Casualty state that he was Killed in Action west of Courcelette, Somme, Picardie, France. Next of Kin was corrected from Miss Frances Mary Paige of 72 1/2 Eaton Avenue, Toronto, Ontario to to Mr. George Frederick Paige of 3 St. Vincent Street, Toronto, Ontario.
Frances Mary Paige came to Canada in 1912 aboard the Victorian. She married William West in York, Ontario on 7 Jun 1924. Her parents were listed as Martha Catherine Lynn Hedley and Archibald Thomas Paige.
There was record of George Frederick Paige coming to Canada, although it is unconfirmed if he himself was a British Home Child. George married Mabel Cameron on 28 May 1917 in York, Ontario, Canada. He listed his parents as Catherine Legun Hedley and Archibald Thomas Paige. George Frederick Paige died 25 Aug 1929 of acute appendicitis.
Edward Paige also came to Canada, on 1 Jul 1922 in Ottawa, Ontario he married Catharine Evans. He listed his parents as Martha Catharine Hedley Lyme and Archibald T Paige.
Two Newspaper articles were writing about the death of Private A. T. Paige.
The first in the Toronto Star, 28 Oct 1916 that stated Private Archibald Paige had been Killed in Action. He was the adopted son of Mrs. F. J. Willkinson of 72 1/2 Eaton Avenue, his own Mother having died since he had been in the trenches. It states that he had been in Canada for 11 years and just finished schooling when enlisting with the 81st Battalion, from which he was drafted to the front with a machine gun detachment. The article also stated that his brother, Private Walter, who was with the 75th Battalion had been wounded on 26 Sep, and another brother, Private Edward was with the same unit.
The second article was from the Toronto Star on 13 Nov 1916 and it stated that $1500 life insurance for Private A. T. Paige was to be divided between Frances and Alice Wilkinson, and Francis and Martha Paige.
