1911 Canadian Census records place William Russell as a Domestic in the household of Andrew McManes in Brandon, Manitoba. William is listed as having been born in Feb 1892 but in Ontario verses England.

Attestation papers signed 17 Dec 1915 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. William Henry Russell was born 18 Feb 1893 in Hammersmith, London, England. His Next of Kin was his Father, John Russell of 2 Lisson Grove Cottages, Marylebone, London, England. He was a farmer by occupation in Buttress, Saskatchewan. 5'8" in height with blue eyes and light brown hair. His religion was listed as Church of England.

Commonwealth War Graves Registers and Circumstances of Casualty state that William was Killed in Action in the trenches at La Folie Farm, west of Vimy. He had an additional Next of Kin added, Miss Ada H. Hurrsell of 10 Oldfield Avenue, Queen Mary Apt. Montreal, Quebec. He was buried in Thelus Military Cemetery, Thelus, Nord Pas de Calais, France. Plot: IV. D. 4.
