NotesIn 1890, Mary Ann Shaw, 10 (along with sister, Lily Shaw, 11) arrived at Quebec, Canada, with a group of 52 Maria Rye girls accompanied by Mrs. Soffe, matron, and en route to Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada.

Mary Alice Shaw and her sister were taken in by two separate families by the name of Ellis in the Galt area.

On December 18, 1901, at Huron, Ontario, Canada, Mary Alice Shaw, 23, born in England to Robert Shaw and Elizabeth Jane Jones; and Archibald Tunney, 29, farmer, born in East Wawanosh Township, Ontario, Canada, to Thos Tunney and Charlotte Robison.

Archibald and Mary Alice Shaw Tunney had at least 3 children: Glen Leslie Tunney, born April 29, 1908; William Thomas Tunney, born November 22, 1902; and Robert Tunney.

In 1911, Mary Alice Tunny, 32, was shown residing at Blyth, Huron, Ontario, Canada, along with her husband, Archibald Tunny, 59, laborer; and children: William Tunny, 8; Robert Tunny, 5; Glen S. Tunny, 3. Her date of birth is shown as July 1878 and her immigration year as 1890.

Archibald Tunney died on April 13, 1930, of asthenia (a condition in which the body lacks or has lost strength either as a whole or in any of its parts) and cerebral hemorrhage. He was buried in Blyth, Huron, Ontario, Canada. Informant was his son, Glenn Tunney.

Mary Shaw Tunney spent most of her adulthood writing letters searching for her family. Mary Alice Shaw told the story that her father was killed at Sea due to the Mutiny of the Vessel of which he was Captain. She also believed she had two brothers named Robert and William Shaw. She thought they, too, had been shipped abroad; one to the diamond mines in Africa and one who fought in the Boar War.
