NotesA birth registration was found for Millicent Florence Butcher: Year: 1901; Quarter: Apr-May-Jun; District: Newport; County: Monmouthshire; Volume: 11a; Page: 239. Parents: George Arthur Butcher and Florence Ruby Cox, married 1893, Bristol, Somerset, England.

Between 1902 and 1904, the family were moving in and out of the Newport (Monmouthshire) workhouse "transfered from Long ashton Union" and "sent to the Beeches." [Long Ashton union was a poor house in Bristol, formerly known as Bedminster Union.] There is also a mention of the children being "sent from the Beeches to Dr Banardo's, London, 20th October 1902," but a year later they are back in the Newport Union Workhouse.

The last mention found of George Arthur Butcher is in the Newport Union workhouse books in 1904. In 1920, Florence Ruby Cox (Couxe) remarried George Pernarowski in Cardiff, Wales. Florence died in 1960 in Newport, Monmouthshire, Wales.

In 1912, Milicent Butcher, 11, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 153 Barnardo children en route to Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.

On September 18, 1923, at St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Millicent Butcher, 22, born in Wales, parents unknown; and Edward Kenneth Leach, 26, carpenter, born in Scotland to Edward Leach and Lydia James.

At least 2 children were born of this marriage: Ernest Kenneth Leach, born July 17, 1924, in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, USA, died September 20, 1970, in Hinsdale, Cook, Illinois, USA; and Thomas Leach, born April 22, 1927, in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, USA, died March 26, 2007, in Schaumburg, Cook, Illinois, UsA.

Millicent Butcher Leach died on June 1, 1932, in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, United States. She was buried at Graceland Crematorium, Chicago, Illinois, United States. [FHL Film Number: 1893253]
