NotesA birth registration was found for Charles H. J. Clutton: Quarter of Registraton: Jan-Feb-Mar 1914; Location: Newport K.; Volume: 11a; Page: 536. (Parents: Charles R. Clutton & Edith Mary J. Hayward.)

After his birth his mother apparently left her husband and son. Young Charles was subsequently sent to a home in London 150 miles away.

His father received reports on his son from time to time however in 1928 without the knowledge of his family (they were not informed until after he had sailed), Charles H.J. was sent to Canada as a Home Child.

In 1928, Charles Clutton, 14, arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, along with a group of 45 boys from Waifs & Strays, Old Town Hall, Kennington, London, England.

The family had no further knowledge of him until the World War II when he reappeared in Great Britain.

A cousin used to recall the day in 1945 when her Uncle Charles arrived at her house proudly introducing his long lost son who was wearing the uniform of the Royal Canadian Air force, apparently he was a Sergeant.

He was married in Canada by then and returned to his family there after the War. His wife was Hazel Eleanor HILL (1917-2011); they had a daughter and a son.

His father Charles R. died in 1954, his mother Edith having passed away in 1942. After Charles snr's death, contact with Charles H.J. Clutton ended.
