In 1892, Thomas Cater, 10 (along with brothers, Alfred Cater, 9, and William Cater, 11), arrived at Quebec, along with a group of 85 children from Middlemore Home in Birmingham, England, en route to Macpherson Home in Stratford, Ontario, Canada. (This is an unusual circumstance for Middlemore children to be placed in Stratford, Ontario.)

[POSSIBLE MATCH] In 1901, Thomas Cotter, 22, cotton dyer, is shown as a lodger at the home of Frank Costano(?) in Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada. His date of birth is shown as March 21, 1879, and his immigration year as 1898.

In October of 1905, Thomas' mother, Sarah Cater, and siblings, Beatrice Cater; Harold Cater; and Eva Cater, all arrived in Canada on the Bavarian. The Family settled in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. (EDITORS NOTE: Sarah Warner Cater died in Guelph, Wellington, Ontario, Canada, on October 16, 1926, of hernia hemiplegia and heart failure. Thomas was the informant of the death, giving his address at 78 Kathleen Street, Guelph, Ontario, Canada.)

On September 7, 1908, at Guelph, Wellington, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Thomas Warner Cater, 29, farmer, born to Alfred Cater and Sarah Warner; and Ethel Maud Darby, 19, born to Henry Darby and Olive Miller. His brother, William Cater, was a witness to the marriage.

Thomas' sister, Beatrice Maud Cater, married another home child, Joseph McCandless, in Gueph, Wellington, Ontario, Canada, on August 15, 1923.
