In 1901, S. Moorhouse, 9, arrived in Portland, Maine, USA, in a group of 260 Barnardo children from London: 193 to Toronto, Ontario; 6 to Peterborough, Ontario; and 60 to Russell, Manitoba, Canada.
Samuel was initially placed with the Campbell Family of Macaulay, Ontario as a domestic servant at the age of 10.
When Samuel was of age to leave, he initially went to Buffalo, New York, USA then later settled in Rochester, New York.
On June 5, 1917, Samuel H Moorhouse, 23, registered for the United States Draft. He declared that he resided at 49 Finch Street, Rochester, New York, USA; that his date of birth was August 14, 1893; that he had filed First Papers for naturalization to become a US citizen; that he was born in Richdale, England; that he was an assembler by trade; that he was employed by North East Electric Co., Whitney Street, Rochester, New York; and that he was not married. He was described as medium height; medium complexion; brown eyes; light brown hair.
Samuel Henry Moorhouse is buried at Riverside Cemetery, Rochester, New York, USA. Section 390.
