NotesA birth registration was found for Christopher Charles Stevens: Year of Registration: 1880; Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar; District: Bradfield; County: Berkshire; Volume: 2c; Page: 357. Parents: Edmund James Stevens and Ellen Lewis, married 1869, Bradfield, Berkshire, England.

A death registration was found for Ellen Stevens: Year of Registration: 1883; Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep; Age at Death: 34; District: Bradfield; County: Berkshire; Volume: 2c; Page: 183.

In 1887, Christopher Stevens, 7 (along with sister, Rose Ellen Stevens, 9, and brothers Arthur Stevens, 11, Walter Stevens, 6, and Frank Stevens, 12), arrived in Canada in a group of 28 Middlemore children en route to the Guthrie Home, London, Ontario, Canada.

"Copy of Reports of Inspection of Pauper Children sent out to Canada made by Immigration Officers of the Dominion Government and received from the Colonial Office on the 12th December 1888.

Report of Mr. John Smith, Government Immigration Agent, at Hamilton.

Christopher Stevens, aged 7. From Bradfield Union. Placed with A. W. Ireland, Forest P.O., Village Forest, Tp. Plympton, Lambton, Ontario Returned to the Guthrie Home, troubled with urinal discharges. Weak and puny, dirties his bed and clothes, and entirely unfit to earn his living in the future. The child should never have been brought out, and should be returned."
