In 1893, S Batterbee, 13, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 228 Barnardo children accompanied by Mr. Owen and en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

In Barnardos UPS and DOWNS, Volume 3, No. 4, July 1, 1898, Sidney Batterbee is shown as being with Garvin Muirhead, Lisle, Ontario, Canada.

Sidney was included in a party of boys who would return for a visit to England in November of 1899, and excursion which was arraigned by Barnardo's but paid for by the boys. He would leave Canada in November aboard the Dominion and returned the following Spring. [Canadian Passenger Lists; Roll T-494.]

Noted in the January 1900 issue of Ups and Downs:

"Sidney A. Batterbee . . . is a sturdy, able-bodied youth, who had done plenty of hard work since his arrival in Canada seven years ago. He had born the character of being a faithful, honest, saving young fellow, and when he returns to Canada in the Spring we shall expect to see him settle down to business in earnest, and that before many years are over he will have a farm to call his own."

More details on this excursion back home can be found at: {website}canadianbritishhomechildren.weebly.com/excursions-to-england.html

Sidney is mentioned in Barnardos UPS and DOWNS, VOL. VIII SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER, 1902 No. 4, as making a contribution to the publication for $1.00.

On January 31, 1938, at Barrie, Simcoe, Ontario, Canada, Sidney Arthur Battersbee, 58, CNR Stationery Engineer, died of undetermined intracranial haemorrhage which was caused when he was struck by a motor car while crossing the highway. The informant was his wife, Violet Maw Battersbee who stated his date of birth was November 25, 1879; his parents were John Battersbee and Elizabeth Dixon; and that he was born in England.

Sidney Arthur Battersbee was buried in Barrie Union Cemetery on February 2, 1938.
