In 1903, Henry Barr, 15, arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, in a group of 316 Barnardo children en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

On February 18, 1915, at Port Hope, Ontario, Canada, Henry E. Barr, 27, enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he was born in Tottenham, London, England; that his next of kin was Miss Alice Smith, who resided at 6 Rumbeled Road, Hendoden, Heartford, Eng.; that his date of birth was April 12, 1887; that he was a farmer; and that he was not married. He was described as fair complexion; grey eyes; brown hair. He was a member of the Church of England.

On September 18, 1916, Private Henry E. Barr died of wounds at No. 3 Casualty Clearing Station, Somme, France. He is buried at Puchevillers British Cemetery, SE of Doullens, France. Grave #24, Plot #4, Row "F".
