NotesHenry John Whitbread, 11, arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, with a group of 395 children en route to Toronto and Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.

On September 8, 1915, Henry John Whitbread enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces (Service Number: 158199; Force: Army; Unit: Canadian Infantry (Western Ontario Regiment); Division: 18th Battalion.) He declared that he was born in London, England; that he was not married; that his next of kin was his mother, Elizabeth Clay, who resided at 2011 Queensland Road, London, England; and that he was a farmer. He was described as 5 foot 5 inches in height; dark complexion; blue eyes; and brown hair. He was a member of the Methodist faith. He had distinguishing marks of a scar on the left shin and a mole over his left buttocks.

Commonwealth War Graves Registers states Henry had previously been reported dangerously ill from wounds, then died of wounds at No. 18 General Hospital, Camiers, Etaples, Nord Pas de Calais, France. His Next of Kin was listed as Mrs. E. Clay, 11 Benwell Road, Hollaway, London, England.
Private Henry John Whitbread died September 6, 1917. He was buried in the ETAPLES MILITARY CEMETERY, Pas de Calais, France. (Grave Reference: XXV. P. 17.)
