NotesOn 18 May 1901, Richard Wailing, 8, brought to Renfrew Road Workhouse by a Police Constable.

On 21 May 1901, Richard Wailing, 8, admitted to Norwood Schools from the Workhouse, no particulars as to parents obtainable, discharged to Miss Macpherson Home for Emigration to Canada on 24.8.01

In 1904, R. Wailing, 11, arrived at Quebec, Canada, along with a group of 31 MacPherson children en route to Mr. Merry in Stratford, Ontario, Canada. He was placed with John Reid of Gray County, Ontario, Canada.

In 1911, Neil Mc Arthur, 47, wife Christina, 42, and M Sophia, 16, Lachlan, 12, Currie, 10, Colin, 8, Donald, 2, and servant Richard Wailing, 18, and father Neil Mc Arthur, 83, in Egremont, Grey, Ontario

On March 7, 1916, Richard Wailing, 23, enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces (Service Number: 838966; Force: Army; Unit: 4th Canadian Mounted Rifles (2nd Central Ontario Regt.) He declared that he resided in Holstein, Ontario, Canada; that his next of kin was his friend, Mrs. John Reid [his foster mother], who resided at RR No. 1 in Holstein, Ontario, Canada; that he was born in London, England; and that he was a farmer. He was described as 5 foot 4-3/4" in height; fair complexion; blue eyes; light hair. He was a member of the Methodist faith. He had a distingushing mark of a round scar on the back of his left wrist.

Richard Wailing died on August 12, 1918. He is buried at the VILLERS-BRETONNEUX MILITARY CEMETERY in Somme, France (Grave Reference: IV. AA. 2).
