NotesParents: William Hancock and Emma Sanderson Maybury.

Their mother (Emily) died in England soon after the birth of her third child, George, in 1900. She had been legally married to Samuel Maybury who died years previous to the birth of William, Elsie and George. Following the death of Samuel Maybury, Emily then lived with a man of the name William Hancock, who was several years her junior, and had William, Elsie and George. On the marriage registrations of Elsie and George the father is listed as "William" Maybury.

Their father, William Hancock, was listed on documents as putative, and died of dropsy.

Their half-siblings said they could not afford to take care of the three children and took them to Barnardo Homes.

In 1903, Elsie Maybury, 8 (along with brother, W. Maybury, 9 ) arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 137 Barnardo girls en route to Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. William and Elsie Maybury were immediately separated. Both went to different farms in southwestern Ontario.

George was considered too young at the time to come over. He arrived on the Tunisian in 1912 after receiving a British education.

Will's nephew (George's son), George Maybury, believes that William was reunited with Elsie in 1912 and later on Elsie was reunited with George, but he doesn't believe the three were ever reunited together before Will died in battle at Ypres.

"Elsie continually wrote to the Barnardo Homes to try and get George moved closer to them, but it appears the brothers never met again. ... I believe though that she is the one who tried to keep the family together. When pictures were taken, she wouldn't just write a name on the back -she put a story to keep the context of what was going on."

On April 11, 1922, at Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between George Maybury, 23, Slow Cook / Waiter, born in England to William Maybury and Emily Sanderson; and Mary M(artha) Pinkerton, 29, born in Ontario, Canada, to Joseph Pinkerton and Ella Gromley.

On December 2, 1926, George Maybury, 27, labourer, died at 18 Ripon Road, East Monk, York, Ontario, Canada. He was buried at St. Johns Cemetery on December 3, 1926.

George died less than a year after his son George (the second) was born.

Mary Martha "Mattie" Pinkerton Maybury died in 1969 in Sundridge, Ontario, Canada. She was buried at Sundridge (Old) Cemetery, Sundrige, Ontario, Canada.
