1901 Canadian Census records place George and Arthur Stringer in the household of Elisabeth Elliott (70) in Orillia, Ontario, Canada. George is 7 years of age born about 1894, Arthur is 6 years of age born about 1895, both boys claim they were born in England. Their relation to the woman seems to be listed as 'Benado', perhaps meaning they were from Barnardo Homes.

Attestation papers were signed 7 Dec 1915 in Toronto, Ontario. George Starkey Stringer was born 3 Jul 1894 in Wales. He was a Teamster who lived at 82 Vaughan Road, Toronto. His Next of Kin was listed as his brother, Arthur E. Stringer or Alameda, Saskatchewan, Canada. 5' 5 3/4" in height with grey eyes and brown hair, he had a 1" scar on his right wrist and a scar on the left side of his neck. His religion was listed as Methodist.

Commonwealth War Graves Registers states that George died of wounds at Number 6 Casualty Clearing Station. He is buried in Barlin Communal Cemetery Extension, Barlin, Nord Pas de Calais, France. Plot: III. D. 29.

Newspaper articles from the Toronto Evening Telegram (1 Sep 1917) and the Toronto Start (4 Sep 1917) state that Private George S. Stringer was an orphan from Barnardo Homes who had worked on the farm of Mrs. R. W. Scott at 82 Vaughan Road. He'd been previously reported wounded, and then Killed in Action. Private Stringer had been engaged to Miss Ada Danborough of Danford Road before his death.
