NotesA birth registration was found for Hubert Walter J Turner: Year of Registration: 1889; Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun; District: Lambeth; County: Greater London, London, Surrey; Volume: 1d; Page: 420. Parents: Walter James Turner and Sarah Emily Victoria Ward, married 1887, in Lambeth, London, England.

Hubert Turner was admitted to Lambeth Union Schools on November 23, 1894. Hubert's mother, Emma was in Renfrew Road Workhouse from November, 1894, to May, 1895, when she was discharged with Hubert. His father, Walter, died in Wandsworth and Clapham Union Infirmary in 1895 (Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec; Age at Death: 30; District: Wandsworth; County: Greater London, London, Surrey; Volume: 1d; Page: 354). Emma Turner then applied for admission of Hubert on December 12, 1895, as she was about to go into the National Hospital, Bloomsbury. Hubert's aunt, Mrs. Humphrey, resided at 54 Princes Road.

Sarah Emily Victoria Turner died in 1895 in Holborn, London, England. (Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec; Age at Death: 30; District: Holborn; County: London, Middlesex; Volume: 1b; Page: 446.)

Hubert was discharged to Barnardo's Home on August 1, 1900.

Placed with Eli Shaw, farmer, Midland, Tiny Twp, Simcoe, Ontario

November 19 1902

About 13 years of age, home fair only, employed at ordinary chores, healthy, attends Church of England, good character. Terms-$100 on 1st April 1906 and two years schooling. Turner is not, in my opinion, suited for his situation, and does not get along agreeably with Mrs and Mrs Shaw. Last summer he ran away and was gone for two months or so. He gave me a reason "that he could not stand it here" He thinks that he will manage all right during the winter, as there will be less work for him to do than in the summer.
