(Parents: Robert Boucher and Charlotte Fanny Chappell, married June 6, 1892 in Edmonton, Middlesex, England.)

In 1901, Arthur A. Herbert, 5 years of age, was shown residing at 15 West Road, Reigate, Surrey, England. Other family members included: Ernest W. G. Herbert, 3; Charlotte F. Herbert, 26; Frank L. Herbert, 1 month; Percy R. Herbert, 6; and Robert B. Herbert, 33, drapers manager. (Source: 1901 Census of England; Class: RG13; Piece: 628; Folio: 11; Page: 13.)

Barnardos reported that the children's father was a blackguard, "drunkard and destitute" and had deserted the children. His wife Charlotte Fanny (Chappell) Herbert was left to take care of the children and was not able to and the children were on the verge of starvation. It also stated that there were two children who were left in England, the oldest boy (Percy) and a baby daughter (who was later adopted out).

In 1908, Arthur Herbert, 13 (along with brothers, Ernest Herbert, 11, and Frank Herbert, 8), arrived at Quebec, Canada, along with a group of 81 Macpherson boys and girls accompanied by Mr. Merry and en route to Stratford, Ontario, Canada.

In 1911, Arthur Herbert, 19, was shown as a laborer for William and Sarah Smith of Whitby East, Ontario South, Ontario, Canada. His date of birth is shown as December 1891 and his immigration year as 1904.

On March 8, 1915, Arthur Montague Charles Herbert, 19, enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he was born in Brighton, England; that his next of kin was his mother, Mrs. F. Herbert, who resided at Chipstend, Sevenoaks, England; that his date of birth was October 15, 1895; that he was a boxmaker; and that he was not married. He was described as 5 foot 8 inches in height; medium complexion; blue eyes; dark brown hair. He was a member of the Wesleyan faith.

On September 15, 1920, at London, Middlesex, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Arthur Montague Charles Herbert, 25, carpenter, born in England to Robert Besecher Herbert and Frances Chappelle; and Ruby Irene Pring, 23, born in London, Ontario, Canada, to William H Pring and Sarah Ann Taylor.
