Clara Celia Alley was baptized on August 15, 1894, at St. George, Everton, Lancashire, England. Parents: Henry and Annie Alley.

In 1911, Clara Alley arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 75 Louisa Birt children from the Liverpool Sheltering Home, accompanied by Mrs. Birt and en route to Knowlton, Quebec, Canada. [EDITORS NOTE: Sister Emma Alley, 21, accompanied Clara on this voyage as an assisted passage. She is not considered a British Home Child as she was an adult at the time of her journey.]

On June 27, 1917, at Ottawa, Carleton, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Clara Celia Alley, 22, nurse, born in Liverpool, England, to Henry Herbert Alley and Janet Patterson; and Reginald Charles Harmer, 27, machinist, born in Gloucestershire, England, to Benjamin Harmer and Mary Ann Chandler.
