In 1910, Herbert Alley, 14, arrived at Quebec, Canada, along with a group of 77 Louisa Birt children en route to Knowlton, Quebec, Canada. [EDITORS NOTE: Sister Emma Alley, 21, accompanied Herbert's sister, Clara, on a voyage as an assisted passage. She is not considered a British Home Child as she was an adult at the time of her journey.]
On June 10, 1915, at Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Henry Herbert Alley, 19, enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he was born in Liverpool, England; that his next of kin was Mrs. Henry Herbert Alley, who resided at 47 Clarendon Road, Liverpool, England; that he was born on April 18, 1896; that he was a labourer; and that he was not married. He was described as 5 foot 4-1/2 inches in height; medium complexion; grey eyes; slight brown hair. He had a mole on his right forearm. He was a member of the Church of England.
On October 8, 1919, at Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Henry Herbert Alley, 23, enamiler [sic], born in England to Henry Herbert Alley and Jannet Henderson [sic]; and Lilian Violet Hooker, 21, born in England to James Hooker and Emma Keall.
Henry Herbert Alley died on September 22, 1971. Lilian Violet Hooker Alley died on January 4, 1983.
