In 1901, Hannah Berryman, 9 years of age, was shown residing at 27 Railway Parade, Pontypool, Monmouthshire, Wales. Other family members included: Hannah Berryman, 32; May A. Berryman, 1; James Berryman, 33, road man below ground; Lizzie Berryman, 7; and Jonas Berryman, 5. (Source: 1901 Census of England and Wales; Class: RG13; Piece: 4944; Folio: 85; Page: 40.)

In 1904, James Berryman died in Pontypool, Wales, at the age of 36. (Jonas' mother, Hannah, married two more times: Henry Harrington in 1911; and Edward Whittington in 1929. Hannah Whittington died in 1929.)

In 1907, Hannah Maria Berryman, 16, arrived at Quebec, Canada, along with a group of 249 Barnardo children en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

On December 29, 1921, George Hammond, 53, died at Caledon, Peel, Ontario, Canada due to pulmonary tuberculosis. He was buried in Erie Township, Ontario, Canada.

On July 6, 1922, at Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Hannah Maria Hammond, 30, widow, born in Wales to James Berriman and Hannah Powell; and Hugh MacPherson Craig, 32, clerk, born in Scotland to William Craig and Sarah MacPherson.
