In 1901, the family was residing at 167 Caledonia Road, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland. Family members included: Jane Birchall, 24; Maggie Birchall, 3; Mary [Ann] Birchall, 1; Mary Ellen Birchall, 2; and Robert Birchall, 28, printer letterpress. Robert Henry Birchall died Dec. 27, 1904, from injuries sustained due to a fall which occurred the previous year. (Jane Johnson Birchall died September 14, 1926.)

In 1908, Maggie Birchall, 10 (along with sisters, Mary Birchall, 9; Ann Birchall, 8; and Sarah Birchall, 7) arrived at Quebec, Canada, with a group of 76 Scottish children from Quarriers en route to Brockville, Ontario, Canada.
