NotesThis obit came from the Lois Stanford British Home Child Collection - .George Bolton,97....George Bolton,a Second World War veteran and retired Phillips Cables employee,died February 7 at Brockville General Hospital at the age of 97. Born Edward George Bolton on May 20, NULL,1910 in Hexham,England,he was the son of William Bolton and the former Mary Jackson. He was raised first in Hexham but moved to Whitley Bay,England after his father who was head gardner of an estate, NULL,died in a green house accident in 1918.He attended churches in both his communities and sang in the choirs.As part of the National Colonization Program,young George immigrated to Canada in July 1927.He arrived at Quebec went on to Montreal and was placed on a farm in Kemptville.He moved to work on the Vince Carley farm in Frankville and then to Joshua Rowsome's farm in Addison in 1930. He began working at Millers Gargae in Addison as a mechanic in 1937.When the Second World War broke out he joined the air force in 1940 and worked on construction of Camp Petawawa.On June21st 1941,he married Irene Frances Palmer in St.Paul's Anglican church,Brockville.They moved to RR 4,Brockville in 1946 and lived there the rest of their lives.He was called to active duty in 1941 and was stationed in Uplands,Ottawa,Mont Joli Quebec and Greenwood,Nova Scotia as engone mechanic for the planes sent over seas.After the war in 1945 he started to work at Phillips Cables working as a die setter until his retirement in 1975.Mr. Bolton was a member of Crystal Fountain Masonic Lodge No.389 and a life member of Salem Lodge,receiving his 60 year pin in February 2007. He was also a life member of Vimy Ridge Eastern Star N.129 and three times Worthy Patron. A member of St.John the Evangelist Church in New Dublin for nearly 60 years,he served as church warde for 37 years and treasurer for 23 years.He was active in all areas of church affairs.He was an avid gardener,worked around the home doing renovations and worked on cars.He enjoyed family camping vacations and trips to the east coast and went to James Bay and Florida as well..They made several trips to England,Scotland and Wales.Devoted to his family,he loved spending time over the years playing with his children,grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr.Bolton is survived by his five children,Sydney Bolton and wife Elaine of RR4 Brockville: Martha Ravensdale and husband Jeffrey of Carstairs,Alberta: Thomas Bolton and wife Barbara of RR 3 Mallorytown: Robert Bolton and wife Cathy of Iroquois Falls,Ontario and Dorothy Lapierre and husband Jack of RR 5,Brockville.Also surviving are 10 grandchildren ( Donna Bolton-Steele,Andrew Bolton, NULL,Paul and Cyndi Ravensdale,Scott Bolton,Robert Jr and Richard Bolton,Patricia Bolton-Russell and Diane and Janet Lapierre) seven great-grandchildren,several nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law Mary Bolton of Newcastle,England. He was predeceased by his wife Irene on December 31,1999 and by three brothers in England,Ronald,Arthur and Harold Bolton. Friends called at the Barclay Funeral Home,Brockville on February 10.The funeral was held February 11 at St.John the Baptist Anglican Church,Lyn with Venerable Micheal Read officiating.Assisted by Rev.Albert Hoppins who gave the homily. The eulogy was delivered by his daughter Dorothy Lapierre and granddaughters Donna Bolton-Steele and Dianne and Janet Lapierre.Burial followed at New Dublin Cemetery.The pallbearers were grandchildren,Andrew Bolton,David Steele,Cyndi Ravensdale,Scott Bolton,Robert Jr and Richard Bolton. Memorail doantions were directed to the Alzheimer Society and St.John the Evangelist Memorial Fund,New Dublin.
