NotesDescendants believe that John left England on 28 March 1889 for Canada on the SS Peruvian, arriving in Portland, Maine on 11th April 1889; however he is not listed as a passenger on the ship's manifest for this sailing.

John Henry Edward Bolton (1875-1964), was the only child of John Bolton (1844-1877) and Elizabeth Powell (1844-1888) - daughter of George and Sarah (Langdon) of Colmbrook, Middlesex.

John was sent to Dr. Barnardo's 8 days after his mother's death. He was described as being 4'11" tall, 66 pounds and chest 26". He had ringworm on his head and a scar below his right eye. He was sent to Kinnaird House on 3rd May 1888, where he remained for the next 10 months.

In October, 1897, J. H. E. Bolton, 23, farmer, arrived at Liverpool, England, on the ship RMS Scotsman. He returned to England to marry his cousin, Frances Powell Thomas (1880-1961). Their first 2 children were born in Southall, and John worked as a cement finisher.

The couple then emigrated to Canada in 1912. The family were unsuccessful in obtaining passage on the Titanic.

John and Francis Bolton had six children: Horace John BOLTON b: 26 NOV 1902 in Southall, Middlesex; Elizabeth Ellen BOLTON b: 10 SEP 1904 in Southall, Middlesex; Sidney William BOLTON b: 2 JUL 1913 in Mount Dennis, Ontario, Canada; Arthur Edward BOLTON b: 29 OCT 1914 in Mount Dennis, Ontario, Canada; Daisy BOLTON b: 10 JUL 1916 in Mount Dennis, Ontario, Canada; and Clifford Henry BOLTON b: 3 SEP 1920 in Laughton Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Francis Powell Thomas Bolton died July 11, 1961, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. John Henry Edward Bolton died on August 2, 1964, aged 89, in Toronto. Both are buried in Toronto Prospect Cemetery, Toronto, Canada.

Update 17.02.2016 from port hope confirming travel details from a Barnardo's report (see first paragraph above).
"John left England's shores on 28 March 1889 aboard the Peruvian and sailed to a new life in Canada. He arrived in Portland on 11 April 1889."
